Wholesale timber material pricing works differently from retail. At wholesale volumes (FCL container or truckload), the per-m³ or per-m² price can be 20–40% lower — but only if you're comparing quotes on the same specs.
We supply wholesale timber products to distributors and large contractors. Here's what affects the wholesale price and how to compare quotes properly.
What "Wholesale" Actually Means in Timber
- FCL (Full Container Load): You buy a full 20ft or 40ft container. You get the best per-m³ rate but take all the inventory risk.
- LCL (Less than Container Load): Shared container with other buyers. Higher per-m³ cost but lower minimum. Good for sampling before a full FCL order.
- Volume pricing tiers: Most suppliers tier pricing at 1–2 containers, 3–5 containers, and 6+ containers per order. The drop from 1→3 containers is usually the biggest.
Keep in mind: Wholesale price is usually ex-works or FOB — not delivered. Add ocean freight, import duty, and local delivery to get your real landed cost per m³.

Wholesale Quote Comparison Checklist
- Confirm exact specs: Same species, grade, MC, and machining. A quote that looks 15% cheaper may be for unplaned sawn timber, not your specified profile.
- Check incoterms: FOB (-Free On Board) vs. CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight). CIF includes ocean freight; FOB does not. Compare on the same incoterm.
- Payment terms: T/T 30 days vs. T/T in advance affects your cash flow cost. Factor that into the "landed" comparison.
