PEFC in China: What to Check
- CFCC endorsement: China's national forest certification system (CFCC) is endorsed by PEFC. Timber certified under CFCC is PEFC-certified for export purposes.
- Chain of custody scope: Confirm the specific timber product (sawn timber, modified timber, engineered wood) is covered in the supplier's PEFC certificate scope.
- Invoice declaration: Each shipment must include PEFC claim and certificate number on the commercial invoice — the same as FSC documentation requirements.

- Verify on PEFC database: pefc.org has a public certificate search. Enter the certificate number and confirm it's active and covers timber products.
- Check certificate scope text: "Timber products" alone is vague. The scope should list modified timber, sawn timber, or engineered wood specifically.
- Request batch documentation: PEFC chain-of-custody requires batch-level records. A supplier who can't provide these on request isn't maintaining CoC properly.
